Job opportunity for graduates in Marine Biology and Ecology at the “Parco Sommerso di Gaiola” Marine Protected Area.

The “Parco Sommerso di Gaiola” Marine Protected Area has announced a selection for the assignment of a professional freelance position for monitoring, research, and scientific outreach activities within the URCHIN Project (Underwater Research Coralligenous Habitat In Naples). The assignment will last for 7 months and involves the planning and coordination of monitoring programs for the coastal marine environment, with particular focus on the benthos and the impact of anthropogenic activities on the coastal marine ecological system.

The required activities include field data collection, including through scuba diving, followed by data processing and analysis. Additionally, the role involves participation in and coordination of scientific outreach activities, including the creation of scientific and educational content. The selected candidate will also be involved in drafting reports and scientific articles for participation in national and international conferences and scientific debates, and will work closely with the staff of the Marine Protected Area and other experts involved in the project.

Required qualifications: The candidate must hold a Master’s degree in Marine Biology and Ecology or related fields. Experience in marine research activities and a Dive Master or higher scuba diving certification are required. Additionally, good IT skills are necessary, with particular emphasis on the use of software for statistical data analysis and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Passion, enthusiasm, and strong problem-solving skills are essential.

Preferred qualifications: Experience in Marine Protected Areas, proficiency in English, experience in scientific activities related to coralligenous ecosystems and/or Paracentrotus lividus, scientific publications, boat handling skills, and experience in educational and scientific outreach activities will be considered positively.
