DEB | Availability of 1 experimental thesis (starting from September 2025)

We inform students enrolled in our Master’s Degree programs that 1 experimental thesis is available at the Laboratory of Systematic Botany and Mycology, starting from September 2025.

The thesis project, titled “Vitality Assessment and Molecular Damage Analysis of Antarctic Black Extremophilic Fungi”, will focus on the study of ionizing radiation resistance in black extremophilic fungi, with particular emphasis on strains isolated from Antarctic environments. These microorganisms, among the most resistant known, are capable of surviving under extreme environmental conditions, including high levels of radiation. The thesis activities will involve exposing fungal cultures to increasing doses of gamma radiation, followed by evaluation of cellular vitality through cultivation assays and characterization of molecular damage via DNA analysis. This project is particularly suited for students with interests in microbiology, mycology, extremophile biology, and biotechnology.
