The concluding event of the national campaign for blood and plasma donation promoted by the Ministry of Health, entitled “Dona vita, Dona sangue” will take place on March 14th at the Aula Magna of the University of Tuscia, Santa Maria in Gradi Complex, Via Santa Maria in Gradi, 4 – VT, in the presence of the Minister of Health, Orazio Schillaci.
In the morning, starting at 8:00 AM, at the Piazzale del Complesso di Santa Maria in Gradi, it will be possible to donate blood and plasma through the AVIS bloodmobile.
Informational stands will be set up in the square in front of the Rectorate entrance throughout the day, staffed with personnel providing detailed instructions and information on blood and plasma donation procedures. Visitors can view informational material and make contacts and appointments to deepen their understanding of the risks, benefits, and precautions necessary to become a donor. Personnel from the Belcolle Hospital in Viterbo, AVIS, and experts from the National Blood Center will be present, along with university students participating in the “Dona vita, Dona sangue” project for peer communication implementation.
The day will conclude with the final event in the Aula Magna at 5:30 PM (program). Institutional greetings will be opened by Minister Orazio Schillaci, followed by speeches from the Rector of Unitus, Stefano Ubertini, and the Rector of Sapienza University of Rome, Antonella Polimeni. The morning will continue with the presentation of the coordinating table, where Sergio Iavicoli from the General Directorate of Communication and European and International Relations of the Ministry of Health, Vincenzo De Angelis, Director of the National Blood Center, and Luigi Ottavio Mechelli, President of the Provincial AVIS Viterbo Association, will alternate to illustrate the campaign’s objectives. Finally, Jurji Filieri, a lecturer at Unitus and Coordinator of the University Multimedia Center (CAM), will introduce the students who authored the winning projects of the “Dona vita, Dona sangue” campaign challenge, and testimonies from a blood donor and a patient will be heard.
To encourage blood donation, the Ministry of Health has allocated funds for the implementation, in collaboration with the National Blood Center, associations, and federations of voluntary blood donors, of initiatives, campaigns, and communication projects. The “Dona vita, Dona sangue” campaign aims to involve young people in blood donation, emphasizing how this gesture, in its simplicity and complete safety, can be of great altruism. The campaign, in collaboration with the National Blood Center and with the involvement of institutional partners, associations, and federations of voluntary blood donors, has seen important moments of encounter, such as the one organized last June 14th, on World Blood Donor Day, at Sapienza University of Rome, to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation, in the presence of the spokesperson, actress Carolina Crescentini, with the launch of the hashtag #unsemplicegestostraordinario.
Throughout the year, numerous activities have been carried out on the territory by public and private entities, marked by an identifying logo placed alongside the institutional signatures of various partners. The campaign has involved: the National Blood Center, the National Association of Italian Municipalities (ANCI), Sapienza University of Rome, Fnomceo, the Inspectorate General of Military Health, the main associations and federations of blood donors operating at the national level (AVIS, Red Cross, Fidas, Fratres, Donatori Nati), and the University of Tuscia, serving in a dual role as a university of Lazio and as the coordinating university of the Universities of Lazio, given the current role as President of CRUL (Coordination Committee of the Universities of Lazio) currently held by Rector Stefano Ubertini.
The University of Tuscia has launched a challenge to award 18 scholarships to students determined to promote blood and plasma donation, activated at the universities of the Lazio Regional University Committee. Numerous participating projects have addressed the theme of donation from various perspectives, with great creativity, producing digital products destined for radio, the web, and traditional media to engage students in donation and inform them about its importance.
