The Roman pre-selection of FameLab Italia, a public speaking competition reserved for young researchers, Ph.D. and Ph.D. students who must present scientific content in popular language in just 3 minutes, takes place between April 8 and 9 at the National Research Council headquarters.

FameLab is a special and original event for the dissemination of science coordinated by Psiquadro in collaboration Cheltenham Festivals: in addition to being a way to disseminate one’s research activities, it is a showcase and an international meeting point for young researchers, as well as an opportunity for training in some of the most effective techniques of public speaking: the young scientists who will participate in the competition must, in fact, win the votes of a jury of experts from the world of science and communication by presenting an original contribution, in Italian or English, in the presence of a large audience.

The 2024 edition of the event includes a total of 12 local Italian selections, which will take place until May 20 in Ancona, Bari, Brescia, Camerino, Catania, Cosenza, Ferrara, Genoa, Perugia, Rome, Turin and Trieste.

The Roman selection, organized by the Cnr Institute of Translational Pharmacology (Cnr-Ift) and the Cnr Communication Unit in collaboration with the Rome Technopole Foundation, Sapienza University of Rome, University of Roma Tre and University of Tuscia, takes place on Monday, April 8, starting at 9:30 a.m., at the Cnr’s Aula Convegni, with an initial selection of candidates: some chosen by the public, made up of high school students, and others chosen by a specialized jury of  researchers and university professors.

The final selection of the two contestants who will participate in the national finals in the fall is scheduled for the following day, Tuesday, April 9, at 3 p.m., also at the Cnr’s Marconi Hall. For this final selection, the audience will consist of university students and people working in scientific research.
