In this section, you can learn about the USAC (University Studies Abroad Consortium) consortium and all the activities and opportunities it offers to students at the University of Tuscia.
The USAC (University Studies Abroad Consortium) is a consortium of 34 American universities that organizes study abroad programs in over 25 countries worldwide. In Italy, USAC has 4 programs: Torino, Viterbo, Reggio Emilia, and Verona. USAC opened its headquarters in Viterbo at the University of Tuscia in 2006 and has since hosted an average of 150 students per year.
“Our mission is to provide students with the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to succeed in the global society of the twenty-first century. We strive to provide an authentic, quality context in which students may grow into engaged citizens of the world, not only in the classroom but also through fieldtrips, integrated living and academic experiences, sports, internships, and volunteer and service learning opportunities”
The main purpose of USAC is to offer a quality study abroad program characterized by an educational offering and an exchange with the host university. To achieve this, we organize projects and activities aimed at enriching linguistic and cultural experiences for both USAC students and those enrolled at Tuscia. Thanks to USAC, Tuscia students have the opportunity to be exposed to the English language, opening themselves up to a different linguistic and cultural context while remaining in their own daily reality.
USAC Viterbo offers numerous opportunities, such as:
Language Tandem: The Department of Linguistic-Literary, Historical-Philosophical, and Juridical Studies and USAC organize a linguistic and cultural exchange between the student community of the department and those enrolled in the USAC program. You can participate in the tandem project either to earn educational credits or out of pure curiosity. For information, please contact the professor in charge of the project for the department and Luisa Quatrini (luisa.quatrini@usac.edu) for the initial meetings with USAC students.
Internships: Internships at the USAC office provide the opportunity to practice English in a work environment, offering an international view of work. Students interested in teaching can also assist Italian as a foreign language instructors and tutor students. For information, email francesca.delgiudice@usac.edu
Buddy System: Orientation and welcome service offered by Tuscia students for USAC students. Participation in the project earns 2 extra points in the USAC scholarship ranking (for more information, see the “Study Abroad Scholarships” section). For more information and enrollment in the Buddy System, contact Luisa Quatrini (luisa.quatrini@usac.edu).
Extracurricular Activities: USAC organizes extracurricular activities open to Tuscia students such as sports (soccer, volleyball, etc.), trips to places like Perugia, Assisi, Siena, Marmore Falls, Tarot Garden, photography excursions, nature walks, and much more.
Participation in USAC classes: Tuscia students can also attend USAC courses. Our classes are taught in English, some by local professors, others by university professors from the United States. In addition to exposure to language in a university context, participation in our courses also offers insight into another teaching approach, characterized by fewer lectures and more discussion activities and workshops in class. During the academic year, USAC also offers seminars, workshops, and lectures in English taught by local faculty, visiting US professors, or guest lecturers.
Study Abroad Scholarships: Every year, USAC offers 5 scholarships open to the entire Tuscia student community. Destinations may vary from year to year and range from European cities (Valencia, Galway, Pau, London, Prague) to more remote destinations such as Chile, China, Costa Rica, Brazil, India. Scholarships are available for either a semester (Fall – September/December or Spring – January/May) or a 5-week summer session (June or July), and their amount varies depending on the destination.
