Citizen Education: Unitus launches an unprecedented initiative in community and regional development training

With the start of the new academic year, the University of Tuscia has launched a groundbreaking and innovative initiative that will help address future challenges in education and social and economic progress.

“Citizen Education” offers free online access to specific university courses for everyone, creating a direct, simple, and timely connection between the educational needs of the local community and the educational offerings provided by the University.

“What makes this educational model particularly interesting is its focus on the three important initiatives funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) in which the University of Tuscia is involved: the innovation ecosystem Rome Technopole, the National Agritech Center, and the National Biodiversity Center. These projects focus on key areas for sustainable development and technological innovation, offering significant opportunities for the region, especially in the field of lifelong learning,” emphasizes Ilaria Baffo, Rector’s Delegate for the management and accounting of research projects.

The courses included in “Citizen Education” will be taught by young researchers from the University, hired with funding from the PNRR, who will share their basic and specialized knowledge in the cataloged courses. This experience will provide them with a valuable opportunity to teach and actively contribute to the development of the local and regional community.

“An aspect to highlight in this initiative is the interdisciplinary approach. The teaching modules have been designed to integrate new technological skills and cross-cutting competencies into existing traditional courses. This will allow participants to gain a broader perspective on the challenges and opportunities offered by the three PNRR initiatives, better preparing them for the ever-evolving job market,” says Silvia Proietti, Rector’s Delegate for the Third Mission.

In a rapidly changing world, offering free access to higher education improves career prospects, helps reduce the skills gap, stimulates the innovative capacity of businesses, and encourages creativity and a willingness to change and learn throughout the community.
