The Spring of Inclusion at UNITUS

The ISENSE, UNITE projects, and testimonies on 360-degree inclusion

Spring has returned, and with it, the second edition of “The Spring of Inclusion.” The event, under the patronage of Rome Technopole and as part of the Universities Revealed day, took place at the Aula Magna of the University of Tuscia on the occasion of the spring equinox.

During the day, the interim results of the ISENSE project were presented, co-financed by the European Union under the Erasmus+ program. This initiative involves 9 partners, both academic and non-academic, from 5 different countries and aims to develop tools to support students with hearing impairments in the university context.

It was also an opportunity to share the new UNITE project with students, also funded under the European Erasmus+ program. The project aims to create a university ecosystem based on inclusion and innovative and quality teaching through collaboration with universities and private organizations from Italy, Spain, Ireland, Portugal, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic.

In addition to the UNITUS projects on the theme, it was an opportunity to hear from distinguished guests. Floriana Filomena Ferrara, CSR Manager at IBM, shared her life experience and how it was possible to break down gender and learning disorder stereotypes.

Salvatore Regoli, president of the Juppiter Association, shared the ambitious project “Adventure Has Big Wings – Destination North Cape,” which will take the association’s special needs children on a journey across Europe to discover new emotions.

The Italian Dyslexia Association presented new actions to ensure inclusion and awareness of learning disorders in the university setting, while the National Deaf Association – Viterbo Provincial Headquarters raised awareness about the deaf community culture, emphasizing the importance of communication and how sign language is a true language.

Finally, the project “Discovering Narrative Traces” of the University Museum System was presented, inaugurating a new multimedia pathway that ensures greater accessibility to museum collections.

“When you decide to repeat an event for its second edition, it means that the first one was a success,” begins Juri Taborri, researcher of the Engineering group and promoter of the event. “Thanks to the guests and the numerous participation, this year’s edition was, if possible, better than the previous one, full of food for thought and possible ideas for the future. We are confident that there will also be a next edition because the University of Tuscia aims to remain a reference point on inclusion issues at the university level.
