Un gruppo di docenti e ricercatori dei dipartimenti per la Innovazione nei Sistemi Biologici, Agroalimentari e Forestali e di Economia, Ingegneria, Società e Impresa dell’Università della Tuscia, ha partecipato al meeting conclusivo del progetto H2020 LOWINFOOD, coordinato dall’Università degli Studi della Tuscia. I lavori si sono tenuti ad Archanes (Creta) lo scorso 24 settembre, con un’introduzione di Clara Cicatiello, coordinatrice scientifica del progetto.
Nei giorni successivi, i risultati del progetto LOWINFOOD sono stati presentati nel il convegno internazionale RETASTE (Rethink Food Resources, Losses, and Waste 2024), dove sono state illustrate e discusse le attività svolte nelle task coordinate da Barbara Pancino, Luca Secondi ed Emanuele Blasi.
Il progetto europeo LOWINFOOD ha testato in condizioni reali quattordici diverse innovazioni contro gli sprechi alimentari. Otto di queste innovazioni sono state applicate alle filiere di ortofrutta, pane e prodotti ittici, con l’obiettivo di ridurre la generazione di sprechi durante le fasi di produzione, trasformazione e distribuzione. Le altre sei innovazioni si sono concentrate sulla prevenzione degli sprechi alimentari nella fase di consumo, sia domestico che fuori casa. Per ciascuna innovazione, è stata valutata l’efficacia in termini di riduzione degli sprechi alimentari, oltre all’impatto ambientale e socio-economico.
Un progetto innovativo che ha visto l’interazione e la collaborazione di 27 partner europei e che, dopo quattro anni di intenso lavoro, ha consolidato il ruolo dell’Università della Tuscia tra i principali centri internazionali di ricerca sugli sprechi alimentari.
